M1A1HA Diorama, Desert Storm 1991

1/35 Scale
Trumpeter

I have always like the sleek look of the M1. With the introduction of the HA (heavy armour) version, the look gets even more appealing due to the addition weight of depleted uranium armour that brings down the front suspension.

The picture above is a collage of my model over a scene of the around my home from my window view!

Building the kit wasn’t easy or straight forward, the trumpeter kit has some flaws such as parts that was supposed to be mirrored was made as duplicates. But the worse thing was the huge amount of inaccuracy such as the shape of the turret. This was corrected with styrene and the texture of the turret carefully replicated.

The smoke discharger that came with the kit was totally worthless, out of scale and out of shape. I replaced these with those from my dragon kit which thankfully comes with 2 types of smoke dischargers.

Further improvements comes with the addition of more accurate chain (Legend Ball and Chain set for Merkava) for the mine plow. I also scratch-built details such as crew equipment which you will see littered all over the tanks in action.

I know many people said that the rear APU is inaccurate but I have photographic prove that these were indeed used during the Desert Storm war in 1991. So I had them on since they look so cool!

The car was left over from my previous project and makes good use here even though its 1/32 scale and demostrates the awesome power of a tank!

The whole diorama is mounted on a solid inch thick teak wood base.
